Tirol's 5 Glaciers

1 ski pass for the ultimate glacier fun

Tirol's 5 Glaciers – Kaunertal, Pitztal, Sölden-Ötztal, Stubai and Hintertux – start the 2008/09 winter season with a joint ski pass, attractive packages, and fantastic skiing pleasure in the eternal ice.

"White5" for all 5 glaciers

From 1 October 2008 to 1 June 2009 (Whitsun Monday), the "White 5" ski pass is valid at all of Tirol's 5 glaciers and offers incredible benefits - foremost snow guarantee, because all five glacier areas extend beyond an altitude of 3,000 meters. On top of that, the "White 5" is a genuine flexibility tool: within the time period of eight months, one can use the pass during 10 days at all of the five glaciers. It's not necessary to use the individual days successively – they can also be used during several short holiday trips.
This makes "glacier hopping" all the more attractive, since the greatest distance between two of the glaciers, i.e. the Kaunertal and Hintertuxer Glacier, is a mere 150 km. In total, Tirol's 5 glaciers offer 314 kilometers of perfectly prepared runs, and if one looks at the individual glaciers, one will find that every one of them has its own, very special character.
The "White 5" costs EUR 298 and, starting 1 October, is available at all cable car companies of the 5 Glaciers.

Fly Winter Dreams : flying to your glacier dream with new airline connections

Winter dreams come true at Tirol's 5 glaciers. In the 2008/09 winter season, you are brought to your glacier dream from even more German airports. One of the new connections to Innsbruck is offered by Transavia from Hamburg, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Additionally, there is the Lufthansa connection from Hamburg to Innsbruck. With TuiFly, one can get from Cologne/Bonn and Berlin to Tirol's capital. Austrian Airlines connects Frankfurt with Innsbruck, and Welcome Air departs from Hanover.
An additional connection is offered by Fly Niki, leaving from Vienna for Innsbruck three times a day. And the airline's close cooperation with Air-Berlin makes it possible for ski fans from many German cities to come to Tirol in a very fast and economical way.
More and more guests rent their skiing equipment in their holiday region, especially during short skiing trips. Those who don't want to miss their own equipment can use the free ski transfer to Innsbruck. The transfer from the airport to the 5 glacier regions is organized by your hosts.

"Fly Winter Dreams" make it possible to design one's own individual dream holidays, because all packages of the 5 glacier ski areas include the following components:
- flight to Innsbruck
- transfer from Innsbruck Airport to the glacier ski area
- 7 overnight stays in a 3 or 4-star glacier hotel with breakfast or half board
- 6-day ski pass
Price per person: from EUR 629

The following package has been designed with short-trip ski visitors to the glacier in mind:
- flight to Innsbruck
- transfer from Innsbruck Airport to the glacier ski area
- 2 overnight stays in a double room
- 2-day ski pass
Price per person: from EUR 199

Tirol's 5 Glaciers: performance art with five glacier stars

Tirol's 5 Glaciers include Kaunertal, Pitztal, Sölden - Ötztal, Stubai and Hintertux. They make it possible to experience the special fascination of glacier skiing. Nowhere else can one enjoy similarly impressive views, powder snow, and extremely clear air. At altitudes above 3,000 meters sportive people breathe differently and have a totally different perception. The glaciers exhibit an artful play of colors, and the typically blue light on the slopes provides the very special snow experience of high mountains and almost limitless freedom. And: each glacier has its very own, individual character.

Kaunertal (1,273 – 3,160 Meter): The small but beautiful glacier.
Waiting times at the lift? Definitely not in the Kaunertal. Because here you will find pleasure skiing without long waiting times from September to the end of June. New from November 2008: an 8-seater mono-cable lift leading beyond an altitude of 3.000 meters. The new Karlesjoch lift brings even more comfort to the Kaunertal Glacier. The detachable 8-seater gondola lift starts directly at the Weißsee glacier restaurant at 2,750 meters, and its gondolas are equipped with a seat heating system. In addition to providing an impressive three-country panorama view directly at the top terminal of the cable car, the new gondola lift ensures access to three pistes with different degrees of difficulty (black, red, and blue) as well as to excellent off-piste slopes.
One of the best fun parks of the Alps is the meeting point for the snowboard and free ski community. The snow park is extremely popular among beginners and pros alike: in addition to a 140 m Superpipe and rails as long as 12 m, the riders have access to pro, medium and easy-line kicker rails plus additional obstacles with varying degrees of difficulty.
The winter season kicks off with the legendary "Kaunertal Opening" from 17 to 19 October. This year, already for the 23rd time, snowboarders and freeriders from all over Europe gather in the Kaunertal. What is waiting for them here is a weekend with cool contests, concerts, and parties as well as a free test festival with the latest ski and snowboard equipment of the season.
Winter holidays in the Kaunertal almost for free? That is possible! If you book 3 days, 4 days or 1 week of ski holidays during the Ski and Sun Free Weeks, you will get a free ski pass from your accommodation partner. Even outside of these special weeks, there are highly attractive offers for families: children up to 10 years accompanied by a parent ski free of charge.

Pitztal (1,600 – 3,440 Meter): Altitude makes a difference
At Austria's highest glacier skiing area, the season starts as early as 13 September 2008, and for the 2008/09 Winter, Pitztal has focused on improved comfort. Just recently, the new comfortable 8-seater Mittelberg gondola lift has become ready for operation, leading up to 3,290 meters and making sure that there are no waiting times. From the same ground terminal, the detachable Gletschersee chair lift departs, whose 39 chairs are equipped with a seat heating system.
In fall, the Pitztal Glacier is a popular training area of international teams, preparing for success in the Alpine Skiing World Cup series. Recently, two guests from Dusseldorf celebrated a success of a different kind. They picked the "Chapel of White Light" at 2,900 meters to get married. This first glacier wedding got the attention of a large number of ski freaks interested in having their "peak wedding" at the Pitztal Glacier.
But you don't have to be a skiing champion or be ready to get married in order to enjoy the advantages of the Pitztal: 48 kilometers of pistes featuring all degrees of difficulty at a groomed area of 85 hectares, the Snowboard Funpark (at 3,100 m) and a kids' area in the snow make the Pitztal interesting for all international skiing guests. Especially families appreciate the free ski pass for children under 10. The kids receive a free ski pass for the same time as one of their paying parents.
The already great variety of pistes at the glacier is even improved by the winter skiing area of Rifflsee (up to 2.800 m) with skiing from December to mid-April. There, you will also find the SunnaAlm, which was constructed as an ultra-low energy building and is the new culinary meeting point at 2,300 m.

Sölden – Ötztal (1,350 – 3,340 Meter): Big3
Sölden – Ötztal attracts glacier fans with a great number of highlights: with its 20 square kilometers it is one of Austria's largest glacier skiing areas and ensures absolute snow guarantee. Here, guests can ski on two glaciers: the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach Glacier. Both glaciers are connected by a 170-meter ski tunnel at an altitude of 3.000 meters. New: the detachable 8-seater chair lift with bubble (investment: € 8 million), which has a capacity of transporting 3,700 people per hour. And there is a culinary novelty: the re-construction of the Giggijoch Restaurant has been finished. It now features a Tyrolean inn where Austrian specialties are served. Additionally, there are two free-flow restaurants and an open-air event arena with ice bar and music stage. And something particularly pleasant: all restaurants are connected by escalators, which makes the tedious use of stairs with ski boots a thing of the past.
The season highlights in Sölden - Ötztal include the following top events: on 25/26 October 2008 the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden hosts the FIS Ski World Cup. Traditionally, on Saturday, the ladies open the 2008/2009 World Cup winter with the first giant slalom of the season. Even earlier than that – from 10 to 12 October - the Maxxx Mountain Glacier Start is celebrated, and from 29 October to 2 November the party goes on at the Go4travel Ski and Snowboard Opening.
The sportive highlight of holidays in the Ötztal is the Big 3 Rallye: each of the three 3,000 m peaks in Sölden - Gaislachkogl, Tiefenbachkogl, and Schwarze Schneid – can be accessed by cable car. Those who have completed this round have experienced approximately 50 kilometers as well as 10,000 m difference in altitude plus three absolutely impressive 360-degree mountain panoramas. A special gourmet and mountain experience awaits visitors of the BIG3 Gaislachkogl platform at 3,058 meters: if the weather allows, select culinary delights are served here, ranging from fresh oysters with champagne and Asian specialties to rustic Tyrolean bacon snacks.

Stubai (1,000 to 3,210 Meter): Kingdom of Snow
A new highlight at the Stubai Glacier in the upcoming season is the Daunscharte glacier lift. It accesses two new pistes and thus opens up even more glacier skiing possibilities at the Daunferner Glacier, whose large and spacious areas are especially popular among guests.
Equally new is the platform at the mountain top, called "Top of Tyrol": at the ridge of the Großer Isidor mountain, the new platform has been built at 3.200 meters. The spectacular steel construction offers a breathtaking panorama view. It has been designed as a resting point for all fans of mountain peaks and is only a 10-minute walk away from the mountain terminal of the Schaufeljoch cable car.
Since last year, the ground terminal of Austria's largest glacier skiing area close to Innsbruck ensures maximum comfort. It offers a spacious, roof-covered access area and Austria's largest self-service ski depot.
The Stubai Glacier is also a paradise for skiing kids. New this season: the Big G Ski Camp Stubai. Big G? He is the cool guy at the glacier teaching kids from 3 how to ski in a playful way. Speaking of kids - up to the age of 10 kids don't pay anything for the ski pass, and children up to 15 get a 50 percent reduction.
From 22 to 26 October, the Stubai Glacier hosts the ultimate material test event: during the 2008 SportScheck Glacier Testival, leading manufacturers present more than 3,500 winter sport articles. They can be tried out in the material test center, and, of course, there will be an après-ski party and a chill-out area. Other event highlights include the 8th Stubaier Telemark Festival from 15 to 16 November and the "Stubai Jam" on 13 December. This free ski and snowboard contest offers not only top action on kickers, rails and boxes, but also a great side program with DJ sound, barbecue, and a large after-contest party in Innsbruck.
Those who want to enjoy Stubai feeling even after their holidays can take home the new Stubai Glacier Milk. The après-sun sun milk calms the skin after skiing and is a 100% natural Stubai product made of propolis, edelweiss, and milk.

Hintertuxer Galcier (1,500 – 3,250 m): Austria's only all-year glacier area
In the upcoming season, the Hintertuxer Glacier will again focus on improved comfort. New: Glacier Bus 1, a lift whose bi-cable technology provides maximum comfort from Hintertux to the Sommerbergbahn. And this means a comfortable start of a perfect day of skiing. Here, a stop is always a rewarding experience, because at the generously designed terrace of the Tuxer Fernerhaus one can enjoy the sun and panorama of the Zillertal Alps in free deck chairs.
Glacier Bus 3, the highest and perhaps most spectacular bi-cable cable car of the world, glides up to a panorama terrace at 3,250 meters. Here one can enjoy a panorama view from the Großglockner mountain to the Dolomites and the Zugspitze. Any yet, the Hintertuxer Glacier offers even more superlatives: it is Austria's only all-year skiing area. Even during summer, up to 18 of the total 86 kilometers of runs can be used. This means that the Hintertuxer Glacier at the foot of the 3,476 m Olperer Mountain can guarantee 365 days of snow and, in winter, a 12 km piste, leading from an altitude of 3,250 down to 1,500 meters.
In October, the start of the winter season is celebrated with two party events: during the Hot-zone.tv Park Opening Hintertux from 3 to 5 October, the perfectly shaped betterpark Hintertux will again become the meeting point of all shredders. The highlight of the party will certainly be when top DJs from Germany and Austria kick it off at the Tuxer Fernerhaus. From 10 to 12 October, the legendary Pow(d)er Weekend takes place at the Hintertuxer Glacier with an extensive après-ski program and the very best in snow fun.
